Missouri's Ignition Interlock Device Installers
Keeping Missouri drivers with alcohol offenses from continuing to drink and drive has been a long-term problem. Ignition interlock devices that prevent drinking drivers from starting their cars may offer a solution.
Missouri law states that a court may require a person who is found guilty of their first DWI offense and shall require any person who is found guilty of a second or subsequent DWI offense to equip their vehicle with a functioning ignition interlock device.
An ignition interlock device is a portable breath alcohol testing device which is fastened to the dash of the vehicle and attached to the ignition, horn and headlights. These devices are designed to prevent a driver from starting a car when the driver's breath alcohol concentration (BAC) is at or above a set level. The BAC is determined as a result of the driver blowing into a tube attached to the device. If the BAC is below Missouri's alcohol set point of .02, the car will start. If it's at or above that level, the car won't start.
