District 10 attended the "Transportation Fair" held at the Southeast Missouri State University River Campus Museum in Cape Girardeau. Senior Community Relations Specialist Belinda McMurry gave presentations on bike and seatbelt safety to various groups of students ranging from Pre-K to 6th grade.

Madison County Summer Safety Fair, June 2009

Alberta Green (pictured above) and Belinda McMurry, both with D10's Community Relations Department, spoke to over 400 students at the 2009 Madison County Summer Safety Fair about buckling-up and other youth safety issues. Students in attendance ranged from Pre-K to 6th grade.
Heartland's Best Campaign, Summer 2009

The Southeast Coalition for Roadway Safety has been a "Heartland's Best" sponsor for the past two years. Southeast Coalition Members Sharee Galnore, with the Cape Girardeau Safe Communities Program, and Senior Community Relations Specialist Belinda McMurry, were invited to represent the Southeast Coalition at the annual Heartland's Best Banquet held at Southeast Missouri State University. The banquet is held to thank the sponsors and honor area high school valedictorians and their families.

MSHP Sgt. Dale Moreland, along with KFVS12's Jeff Cunningham, tape a public service announcement that will be aired on KFVS12 throughout the summer months. As a "Heartland's Best" sponsor, the Southeast Coalition not only gets to congratulate successful students from the area, but they also get to send the "buckle-up" message to thousands of teens during peak television air times.

D10, along with Missourians from other regions, were well represented at the 2009 Lifesavers Conference in Nashville. MoDOT employees and Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety members were just a few of the Missourians that were in attendance.

District Law Enforcement Meeting, January 2009
Highway Safety Director Leanna Depue, along with other Highway Safety members, presented information to local law enforcement officers and agencies. The meeting was held at the Cape Girardeau Osage Center and was open to all local law enforcement and agencies.

2008 Battle of the Belt Awards, 2008 School Year
Notre Dame High School was awarded a Regional Battle of the Belt plaque and $250 for having the highest overall seatbelt usage rate in the Southeast District.

'Arrive Alive' at Bridge Building Competition, November 2008

Malden High School cheerleaders perform a Buckle-Up cheer that was then used as a local Public Service Announcement on the KFVS12 website. Malden cheerleaders were the 2007 KFVS12 Cheer-of-the-Week Champions.

Summer School Safety Event at Park Hills, June 2008
MoDOT Intermediate Community Relations Specialist and District Youth Coordinator Belinda McMurry speaks to a group of Park Hills Central Elementary students before they participate in an "interactive safety assembly." From car seat safety, to highway and work zone safety, the students were introduced to many important safety messages during the summer school event held in June.
Click It or Ticket Press Conference, May 2008
Local law enforcement and emergency responders participated in the 2008 Click It or Ticket press conference held at the Sikeston Morlan Dodge auto dealership in May. Sgt. Dale Moreland, Public Information and Education Officer for the Missouri State Highway Patrol was the guest speaker during the press conference.

As part of an end-of-the-year field trip, students visited the Brazeau maintenance shed to learn about roadway safety and buckling-up.
Battle of the Belt Assembly, May 2008
Sgt. Dale Moreland, with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, spoke to the Chaffee High School student body about the importance of buckling-up at all times. Moreland also awarded the school with a check for $250 for having the "most improved seatbelt usage" in the Southeast District during the 2007 Battle of the Belt Challenge.

Battle of the Belt Statewide Award Ceremony, March 2008
Notre Dame High School (left side) was awarded a trophy and $1,250 at the State Battle of the Belt awards ceremony for having the highest overall seatbelt usage rate in the Southeast District and for the entire state of Missouri. Ashley (right side, third from right), from Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center, was awarded second place in the state for her original public service announcement (PSA). In addition to winning a trophy, Ashley’s PSA was also used in a local media campaign on area cable channels. The Southeast Coalition for Roadway Safety partnered with MADD by bringing guest speakers and presentations to area high schools this spring in hopes of decreasing fatalities on Missouri roadways.

The Southeast Coalition for Roadway Safety and the Missouri Highway Patrol had an Arrive Alive booth at the Southeast Missouri District Fair in Cape Girardeau. During the fair, people were given the chance to ride the Seat Belt Convincer.

Students that rode the Seat Belt Convincer at a local Arrive Alive School Event were entered into a drawing to win a free iPod (donated by Chaffee Montgomery Bank). Other events included a t-shirt launch and the "Click It" noise makers at the school football game.

Team Spirit Leadership Conference in Cape, July 2007

High school students from the southeast region watch as area emergency crews role-play during a mock drinking and driving accident (docudrama). The docudrama was part of the Team Spirit Leadership Conference held in Cape Girardeau July 22-24.

High school students from nine southeastern schools participated in the Team Spirit Leadership Conference. During the conference, students listened to various guest speakers and participated in various educational and social events. In addition, students prepared action plans to take back to their schools in hopes of decreasing roadway fatalities in their schools and communities.

Buckle-Up Stencils and Signs in Sikeston, Summer 2007


(above) Prior to the '07-'08 school year, two Sikeston High School students painted 16 "Buckle-Up" stencils at Sikeston area school parking lots. (far above) In addition, the students also installed "Buckle-Up" signs in the school parking lots this summer. Students are pictured with the Sikeston High School Principal. Buckle-Up stencils and signs are free to the public (see Regional Resources for more information).
Life Safety at Church Music Camp in Dexter, Summer 2007
Sgt. Dale Moreland works with youth at the First Baptist Church in Dexter during a yearly Music Camp. Students learned about "Life Safety" with demonstration with the Rollover Simulator.

Sgt. Dale Moreland, Public Information and Education Officer for the Missouri State Highway Patrol, speaks during a Click It or Ticket press conference at the Sikeston Outlet Mall on May 21. Law enforcement officers from Cape County and Scott County were present during the press conference to show their support of buckling up and saving lives.
News Release, May 2007: Chaffee High School Take Two Press Release
The Chaffee High School student body participated in a Take Two assembly presented to the school by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), along with the Southeast Coalition for Roadway Safety. The Take Two assemblies were presented to 10 schools in Southeast Missouri in hopes of decreasing the fatalities on Missouri roadways.
