    Go to the Highway Safety Division for information on seatbelt safety, driving while intoxicated, bicycle safety and more.

Attention Schools/Organizations. Money Available to Reduce Fatalities on Missouri Highways. Deadline is March 31.

Failure to wear seat belts is cited as the leading cause of fatalities on Missouri highways. In 2010, lack of seat belt use accounted for 54 percent of fatalities.


The Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety has approximately $100,000 to award to schools or organizations in the Southwest District for projects that will save lives on Missouri highways.


The leading causes of fatalities are:
Lack of seat belt use: 54 percent of fatalities
Aggressive driving: 42 percent of fatalities
Inattentive driving: 31 percent of fatalities
Impaired driving: 33 percent of fatalities.


Projects will be evaluated and selected by a panel of Coalition members. Please submit applications by March 31 to Joseph Rickman.
