Extreme Driving Take Over Gets Good Review--Feb. 8, 2007

In 2006, local high school students participated in a student-driven/student-focused educational program to get students involved in educating their peers about driving safety. The program, called Extreme Driving Take Over, began with students from East Newton and Carl Junction high schools, and by the end of the year, three other high schools joined.

According to Rita McClary, Carl Junction High School principal, "the facts and information provided to students through these activities has been a frightening wake-up call to students. The benefits of students participating in this program are invaluable. I encourage school leaders to become actively involved in this program or similar programs to provide awareness information that is rarely included in the traditional curriculum."

McClary says the feedback from student surveys is positive and "it clearly shows that students are getting the message."
