Pedestrian facility improvements underway in Jefferson City

Work to close single lane of Missouri Boulevard for next few weeks

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Work on pedestrian facilities is underway in Jefferson City and will close one lane of Business U.S. 50 (Missouri Boulevard) at various locations for the next several weeks. Construction crews are improving curb ramps, replacing sidewalks, and upgrading signals.

The work on Missouri Boulevard will continue through mid-May. One lane at varying locations will be closed during daytime hours, Monday through Friday. Construction crews started work just west of Stoneridge Parkway and will be progressing east to Dix Road. Additional ADA work will take place at the intersection of Missouri Route 179 and Edgewood Drive.

This work is part of a multi-county project to bring pedestrian facilities in 10 mid-Missouri communities into compliance with the current standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a $1,230,276.54 contract to Aplex, Inc. for this work, which is set to be completed by Dec. 1, 2024. Construction crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) have passed the halfway point with improvements complete in Holts Summit, Fulton, Jamestown, Stover, Latham, and Eldon.

Once crews complete work in Jefferson City, they plan to move to Rolla followed by Steelville and St. James, in a to-be-determined order. Because the work is highly weather-dependent, schedules are subject to change.
